Automated Guided Vehicles

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) / Remote Guided Vehicles

Automated Guided Vehicles are employed in conditions where it is too dangerous or impractical for humans to go. AMC is the drive of choice for many unmanned vehicles because of our proven reliability and adaptability. High power to size ratios keep the weight down and the performance up!

AGV's are typically land based but underwater and aerial vehicles also exist. The increased priority of homeland security has fuelled development in AGV technology.

Land

Law Enforcement

Law enforcement uses AGV's for bomb detection & disposal, hostage situations and stand-offs. Typical law enforcement AGV's use tracks instead of wheels and have camera vision for the operator. Options include manipulator arms, shotguns and speaker systems to communicate with suspects.

Security

The Security Industry uses AGV's for under-vehicle inspection and for facility surveillance patrols. Highly secured installations often check under vehicles at the entrance gate to prevent sabotaged vehicles from entering the facility. An under vehicle AGV improves inspection capability versus mirrors because they can see from more angles and provide a closer look.

Military

The military has found many uses for land based AGV's including reconnaissance, surveillance, mine detection/removal and weapons delivery.

Search and Rescue

After the collapse of the World Trade Center there were mountains of unstable rubble and areas that were far too dangerous for search and rescue teams. Ground based AGV's were sent in to these dangerous areas to look for survivors and evaluate conditions for human rescuers.

Mine exploration

AGV's are used to explore and map unstable mine shafts.

Hazardous Materials

Hazardous materials. Radioactive and toxic environments are ideal situations to use AGV's. They can handle dangerous materials and clean contaminated areas.

Air

There are many functions where servos can be used in unmanned aerial vehicles . These inculde propulsion, on-board radar, camera positioning and control surfaces such as yaw, pitch and roll. Fixed wing aircraft are the most common but rotary and lighter than air vehicles can also be found.

Water

In underwater vehicles, AMC powers the propulsion, points cameras and operates the control surfaces.
