Entertainment
The entertainment industry blends an unconventional mix of art, physics and engineering to create experiences that viewers will never forget. Movies and theme parks are the major driving forces for these creations.

Animatronics
Movies such as the Star Wars series, Harry Potter, Aliens and Jurassic Park used animatronics to generate many of their special effects. However, since computer-generated imagery (CGI) has become more realistic, special effects are more likely to be generated on the computer rather than physically. This doesn't mean that animatronics will be relegated to obscurity!
Animatronics can also be found in theme parks and museums. Animated characters can use simple on/off type of motion or they can be complex with many coordinated axes. Many of these characters can be seen on theme park rides and shows. Museums use animatronics in their dinosaur exhibits where they move and roar at the spectators.

Camera Control (Movies and Television)
Certain camera effects require that the camera is accurately tracked and the motion is exactly repeatable. This is especially important when combining live action with CGI effects. It's already difficult to realistically mix CGI with live actors, but when the camera moves the difficulty increases dramatically. The reason: when the camera moves, the perspective, location, lighting and relative size of the CGI character must change to match the relative movement of the live actors. A servo controlled camera makes it possible to film the scene with or without actors repeatably and then port the motion into the CGI process to verify that the point of view is correct.
Important requirements in this application are repeatability and silence. Movie directors are demanding people and if any unwanted noise gets picked up on the audio track, the offending piece of equipment will be thrown out on the spot.

Water Shows
Water shows take one of the most mundane and abundant elements (water) and turns it into an art form. The water show at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino is one of the most ambitious and beautiful examples. Behind the music and choreography you will find AMC servo drives controlling the water jets.

Theatre Elements
The theatre uses motion control to make rotating stages and to make props come to life. Tracking systems have been built into stage lighting so performers are automatically followed by the lighting system.

Battlebots
AMC servo drives were in several of the battlebots seen on TV. Including Mechadon, Ronin and Overkill. AMC was up to the challenge of a fight to the death and win-at-all-cost battle!
High power to weight ratio, robustness and reliability are all qualities needed to win in the battlebot arena.
