Step & Direction

Adopted from stepper motor control, this command method uses two digital inputs to control motion. One input typically increments position or velocity while the other indicates the direction of motion.

Advantage

  • This is the easiest way to transition a machine from steppers to servos because the same stepper controller can be used to control the servo drives

ADVANCED Motion Controls' Capabilities

  • Step & Direction ratios are fully adjustable from simple 1:1 where 1 step = 1 encoder count to arbitrary values (ex: 12:34)
  • Step & Direction command can be used in current, velocity, or position mode
