Custom Solutions
Modified and Optimized Products for the OEM
ADVANCED Motion Controls has extensive experience in designing affordable custom products optimized for OEM's specific needs. Our customers are able to interact with a team that not only listens to their needs but also understands system integration. This results in solutions that offer exceptional value.
Custom products are manufactured on the same machines and with the same people as our standard products. We can support and sell custom solutions as if they were standard products. We make it transparent to you.

Modifications and Complete Customs Introduction
Modifications
Sometimes a few adjustments are needed to make things just right. This is where modifications can increase machine performance.

Just a few of the possibilities:
Modifications can quickly be realized and are based on standard products. Simply find an existing product and if it doesn't quite meet your needs, ask us for more! |
Customizations
It can start with a crazy idea, feature creep or near impossible specifications, but sometimes you just have to start over from scratch. Starting with a fresh design affords endless possibilities allowing the designer to expand capabilities beyond servo drive functions including full integration of peripheral components.

Ideas for Modifications and Customs
We've compiled some ideas for modifications and customs to help you visualize the possibilities. Let us know if you see something you like or come up with your own requirements so we can start working towards your next success!
This list starts with simple modifications and progresses to more involved customizations, in general the expected volume/commitment also increases. Because our digital drives are so configurable many of the following "modifications" aren't necessary since they can be easily configured in the software.
| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |

Need Increased Performance
|
Drive Tuning
|
Drive Tuning is a simple yet very effective modification to achieve higher performance for your analog servo drive. We start by determining if your servo drive actually needs tuning. Many of our drives have switches and potentiometers that tune the current and velocity loops. If these built-in compensation adjustments can't produce the desired performance then custom tuning may be the next step. Just send us your motor and system information and our Applications Engineers will determine what component values provide optimal performance. They will record these values and create a custom part that you can reference for future orders. Note: digital drives need not apply since custom tuning is easily achieved using the setup software during configuration of the drive. |

| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |
Need specialized current limitNeed very specific current limits. |
Custom current limitCurrent limits set to your specifications. |
Custom current limits better protect your system and save money, size and weight by allowing a smaller drive to work in the application. If the peak current requirement is extremely brief or infrequent it is often possible to increase the current limit beyond the normal envelope of the drive. |

Private Label
|
Private labeling provides many benefits:

| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |
Need foolproof setup #1
|
"Hardwire" the switch settings
|
In addition to speeding up the configuration process, hardwiring the switch settings improves quality by removing the possibility that the wrong switches will be set during installation. |
|
| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |
Need foolproof setup #2
|
"Hardwire" the pot settings
|
Hardwiring the potentiometers removes variation between installations. Not all potentiometers need to be hardwired. For example a customer may choose to leave the offset pot adjustable and only hardwire the current limit, reference gain and loop gain. |

Servo drive doesn't fit
|
Change the shape
|
Changing the shape to a circle might be a little extreme, but maybe you just need to reduce the width and can sacrifice a little length, or reduce the footprint and sacrifice height. We have delivered all shapes of drives including round ones that were integrated onto the backs of motors. |
|
| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |
Not enough room for drives
|
Multi-axis solution
|
Multi-axis designs are smaller than the sum of their parts because they reduce redundant functions and components and take advantage of board layout. |
|
| Problem | Solution | Advantage | |
Complicated assembly
|
Integrated solution
|
Integrated solutions greatly simplify supply management, reduce assembly time and increase reliability. Lets work together to get you the best possible solution. |

So how much does this stuff cost?
All modifications and customs are different so we have to treat each case individually, but we can still provide some guidance:
With simple modifications the cost per unit can be near parity with standard products. As quantities go up the difference will be less. Also some options are available that may actually make the modified design cost less than the standard (such as removing the servo drive cover to reduce the material cost).
For customs where there is increased complexity it's best to add up the cost of the individual components for comparison. A multi-axis solution for example can be a combination of two drives and a mounting card. If you added up the price of the individual components it is very likely that the custom 2-axis drive would cost less (Even including engineering costs and NRE).
Even in cases where there is very low volume you can still come out ahead if you consider the cost of alternative solutions. For example, how much does it really cost to design your own servo drive? We've seen customers struggle for years trying to design their own solution and end up with unsatisfactory results and poor reliability. But when given the chance to step in we have proven ourselves time and again by delivering excellent solutions in just a few weeks or months making our customers very happy.
So how is it that we can deliver the best solutions so quickly? The simple answer is - it's just who we are. Our skill-set for designing servo drives is practiced and honed daily and it shows in our time-to-delivery, quality, performance and pricing.
